Feb. 3 'When the center cannot hold: Colonization, religion, violence and the fate of Sudan'

After decades of violence, Sudan, one of the oldest civilizations and the largest country in Africa and the Middle East, is destined to break into two countries. On Thursday, Feb. 3, at 12 p.m., Professor Abdullahi Gallab will present a Religious Studies Faculty Forum discussing how colonization of religion and its consequences played a pivotal role in bringing about this defining moment.

Gallab holds joint appointments as a professor of African and African American studies in the School of Social Transformation and in the School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies, both academic units ASU’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. His research is focused on current Islamist movements in Africa and the Middle East.

The forum, to be held in Coor Hall 4403, is free and open to the public. For more information about the event, contact alexander.henn@asu.edu or visit http://shprs.clas.asu.edu.
